NOTICES FOR SUNDAY 24th DECEMBER 2017

Welcome to our worship this morning.  For those who won’t be here for Christmas we wish you every blessing and joy.  For those going on holiday we wish you a refreshing and rejuvenating summer.  For those who are in Auckland please note that our Sunday services will continue as usual, and the Parish Centre will be closed until Pamela returns on the 8th  though Glynn will be available as needed.

Each Christmas, Glynn submits a short piece to the NZHerald for consideration.  Sometimes, like last year, these are printed and sometimes not.  This year’s article was not printed, and it is attached to these notices [and a copy is on the screen bench in the church].

1.  STAFF TO-INGS & FRO-INGS.

Pamela is on leave until Monday 8th January
Colin is on leave until Monday 22nd January
Glynn will be available until Monday January 8th (021 545 969), then he is on leave until Friday 26th January.  The Revd Susan Adams (021 522 231) will be leading the services on Sundays 14th & 21st January.

2.  REVERSE ADVENT CALENDARS.  Advent food boxes can be left in Colin’s office until arrangements can be made for delivery to the foodbank.

 3.  CHRISTAN WORLD SERVICE CHRISTMAS APPEAL: MAKE HOPE MY STORY

For 72 years Christian World Service has kept the light of hope shining for people who need food,

water, healthcare and more. Our partners are part of the communities where they work and they

are passionate about the people they work with. These are people who need hope that is real.  Not satisfied with only

meeting immediate needs, our partners want to set families up with a more secure income and strong community

support.  This year’s Christmas Appeal showcases five partners working in their local communities and beyond.  Your

donations to this appeal give them the funding they need to do what is most urgent.  You can read their stories of

hope and find information and resources. Give to the CWS Christmas Appeal online or by taking an appeal envelope

       from reception.

4.  SPANZ MAGAZINE.  Copies are available in reception.

5.  TABLECLOTHS.  Any St Luke’s tablecloths lurking at home please?  We are missing several.

6.  ST LUKE’S BIKE RIDE 3-4th MARCH 2018.  PAIHIA TO THE HOKIANGA.  The ride involves staying in Paihia night of Friday 2nd March then cycling as a group between Paihia and Kaikohe on Saturday, and Kaikohe to the Hokianga harbour on Sunday.  Bus to and from start and finish points each day. Can return back to Auckland Sunday evening. Each day is 40km. Almost all of the ride is flat. Details of the ride on https://www.nzcycletrail.com/trails/twin-coast-trail/.         Due to need to book the bus well in advance, bookings have to be confirmed by end of December, plus the cost of bus for both days which is $100 in total.  You will need to arrange you own accommodation in /around Pahia for both nights. Bikes can be hired from http://paihiamountainbikes.co.nz/  Phone: 0211878192. Further info from Ken Hulls.  Please sign the list at reception if you are keen to join the group.

7.  ENNEAGRAM COURSE.  17th February 2018, 9am-3.30pm. Cost $45 per person.  Ever wondered about what this analysis of personality has to teach you? Join with others in self-reflection regarding your particular personality style, and how might this affect your way of being in the workplace, in the world and in your relationships with others.  The Enneagram is a model of the human psyche which is principally understood and taught as a typology of nine interconnected personality types. In business contexts it is generally used as a typology to gain insights into workplace dynamics; in spirituality it is presented as a path to higher states of being, essence, and enlightenment. It has been described as a method for self-understanding and self-development.  Please sign the list at reception.

8.  HOSPITALITY TEAMS.

Sunday 31st December: Curt & Megan Davidson (leaders), Allan & Margaret Davidson, Roger Williams, Helen & Malcolm Peterson

Notes from December’s Parish Council Meeting

One of three vacancies on the Parish Council has been filled with Nick Paschalis returning after a break of some years, and discussions are ongoing with two other persons who are giving consideration to membership.
Following advertising of the Youth Worker position, a number of applications have been received through SEEK.  None are suitable however.  The Presbytery Youth Coordinator, Emma, is helping.
Parish Council is planning a full day Planning Day on 10th February. This will include pulling together the outcomes of the Ministry and Mission consultations.
A comprehensive discussion on the organ refurbishment / upgrade, recommended the need to review the contractor’s proposed terms of contract, and to establish a project implementation team to follow on from the work of the, still ongoing, fund raising team.
A preliminary discussion on the allocation of St Luke’s outreach / mission fund noted the opportunities to maintain and build on the links with Manurewa Marae community health work and, following a visit by Glynn to the Principal this month, extending support for East Tamaki School.
Minutes of November PC meeting now available on the website
