The Eight Commandments (utterances) how we treat one another
God is found in our together when we love neighbour and build justice. God is found in how we treat one another.
In the sermon, Rev Glynn Cardy comments upon the State of Louisiana's decision to affix the 10 commandments to classroom walls, as if this will influence the young for good. Following Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin, Glynn asks whether these commandments are too easy, religion-light. Salkin suggests if we read the Holiness Code of Leviticus 19 carefully there are more challenging utterances (commandments) to consider and live by. Not that he thinks religious words should be affixed to a public classroom wall.
